Things you Don't Need

Hey all So I figured most people start reading these looking for omg whats it going to be like, and what to pack. So this is post on stuff that you don't really need, and things that are nice to have, and things that you can buy down here.
UPDATE: This is from 2011, so I never had to deal with bunk beds, 3 people in one room etc. So take this all with a grain of salt because of space etc.
Things you Don't Realy Need
1. Desk Lamp
I've only ever used mine when I don't want to have to get up and turn off the light after getting in bed.
2. A ton of shoes
Nice shoes( heels and flats) boots  flip flops and sneakers. thats all you need really.
3. Clothes
This is iffy one. I brought a lot of clothes because I'll be here for 7 months.  The summer has been really hot so I ended up buying shorts and capris and really thin tshirts. I live these now, mostly. And Pjs. My jeans I will probably end up wearing more in Winter. But If you can have someone mail these things down for cheap, or if you have family coming to visit I would advise doing that instead. Maybe bring one pair for going out to eat, where the AC will be cranked up.
4. Hair Product
Honestly its so hot, and humid that your hair will never look nice really. You sweat alot, and the even anti frizz stuff never works. If you dont have extra space leave it.
5. Lunchbox
This I would wait on. My work location has a fridge,so I just bring my lunch in a plastic bag. That being said some locations don't.Also there is the Caf. so you can get by a couple days till you figure out if you need one.

Nice to Have

1. Plastic Drawers Organizer thigns
I really wish I had bought this right away. Everything from all the junk you have, to clothes (as my roomie does) They work great as a nightstand or at the end  of the bed too.
2. Bed Risers
If you want to put pretty much anything under your bed like a milk crate, you need these.
3. Brita Filters
The water down here is disgusting. bottle water is the best but also expensive and wasteful
4. Extra  Phone Cords
CP housing, and pretty much any place you work will have terrible reception. This kills your battery. An extra charger( or external battery pack) will work great if your job has a place to plug it into
5. Pillows
I brought 3 pillows down and ended up buying an extra because the bed is against a wall and it hurts like crazy when you jam your knee into it. Also grab an egg crate mattress pad. I have a cheap one and it works great so far, although it moves around alot.

Things to Buy Down Here

1. Curtains and Rods
Read carefully. Buy a shower hanger rod that just presses against the walls. This will allow you to put it in your window and hang a curtain without PM going nuts. Also buy a blackout curtain. Every single room has lights that shine in at all hours of the night and day. Also extra Rods are useful to hang Bras, extra clothes etc to dry
2. Bath Mats
These are good for both the bath and to cover the unpleasant carpet.
3. Laundry Hamper
Laundry facilities are pretty far away and your clothes will easily become both too heavy and too wrinkled if you use a bag. Get one that Rolls, or has a back pack strap.
4. Over the Door Hooks
PM doesn't get you put anything sticky on the walls (like command hooks) so over the door hooks are great for robes, bags, hoodies, and towels. The towel rack in the bathroom is only big enough for one towel to dry on.

Okay there is some stuff. As I think of more I'll either add to this or make a new post.

....Its been a while

Hi! I had promised myself that I was going to update regularly once I got here but that is not happening. I'm normally on th net for like 4 hours a day at the least and here I haven't even check my email since I left my house. Its been really busy and plus I wanted to spend time with my roommates.

First Day:  this was check-in. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express (Formally sunpree) It's about a block and a half. It doesn't have breakfast, but it was pretty chap, clean, and has a nice pool. I ended up meeting one of my roommates early since she also stayed there, and she stored her luggage in my car. Then we headed over to Vista at about 7 am. We were pretty lucky considering that almost all of our roomates were already there, and at the end of the line. (much easier to find them)

I would suggest that you all exchange a really recent picture showing how you'll look that day. We got there and no one looked like their FB picture.

When you check in make sure you have all your paperwork, plus ID and a voided check for payroll. Then you head though some stations and finally end up at housing. This is where you MUST be with your roomate/s. One person will take all of your programs and sign you up for housing. The earlier you are in the day/line, and the earlier your check-in date is, the better off getting the complex and size you want is. You will also take your ID photo for housing, so be prepared for that.

Day 2: Nothing. you'll probably have this off, so you have move in and grocery shop. (I suggest two cars if you can)(photo later)
Day 3: Traditions - Pretty fun, but try and wear comfy shoes, you'll be walking alot. Flat worn in shoes, or black pumas can pass as press shoes
Day4: Continuing- WEAR COMFY SHOES. I wore a pair of comfy boots, but 6 hours later I was in pain. comfy flats that ou have worn for hours before. Flats can and will blister your feet if theyre not broke in
Days after: this is the bestest funnest part! I can't say much, but it is awesome! Also Rule Above goes extra for these days.

Now: I have been moved from Main Entrance to ....wait for it....

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN
This is beyond awesome really. And I have one of the best ..trainer people. Miss Laura I love you! My current trainer is also really great.

Okay that is all for tonight. hopefully tomorrow I will update again.

Goodbye

So I'm leaving for Orlando today in a few hours. The car is all packed except for the cooler. I am both excited/nervous, and depressed. I'm going to miss my bed the most from my house. And my family, but thats a given. Ugh oh well. I am off to shower and get the cooler ready.
Ta!

Packing Tips

Just to let you know I have roommates! I'm so happy they all seem really nice too.
 Also omfg 24 days.o.o
Tips:

This is something I started doing on trips since I always go into a mild panic attack thinking I’m forgetting something. Take pictures of EVERYTHING YOU PACK! Yes it sounds very time consuming, but this way you know every article of clothing, bedding, misc item ,etc that you brought.
I usually do this as I gather everything for packing. Even take picture of what your taking it in.(Great if you and your roommate can’t remember who’s is who’s)

How: Set your camera to the lowest setting so the pictures don't take up much space. The snap away everything you gather up. Go through and name all the files (something descriptive like Showercaddy, or Flash T-shirt) and also make a word doc of it. I usually organize either the pictures or the word doc with categories one with general categories like Bedroom, Bath etc and then one with how I’m packing it(what goes in which container etc)

After: Double check you have everything on your original packing list with what you have gathered. Anything Missing? Figure out why it's missing and if you need to remedy that or if you just deiced you didn't need that.

Then as you start to pack triple check as everything goes in. Use a pencil in case you have to take something out. When this is finalized make another list of the containers that need to go in the trunk, inside the car, and on your person.
There almost done! For the things that you will be carrying on your person (phone, ipod, travel clothes+sleep+day of clothes) make a list of those and keep it handy to make sure those don’t get accidentally left behind.
And arrange your clothes so those that you will need that day and those that you will need to unpack that night. (Such as business clothes.)

Legend: $-Buying at home . O-Own . *-Buying there . $*-Buying there or recurring expense ~-maybe
I didn't include most of the clothes and accessory items for them, since you know what you'll bring and what goes with the stuff you own.

Laundry basket
Good for throwing dirty clothes in, and bringing clean clothes back to the room.

Packing List!

In honor of the fact that I am down to just 40 days. I decided that I would go ahead and post the packing list I've complied. I've taken a lot of stuff from various lists I've encountered, as well as add my own stuff(hence the weird amount of detail in some stuff). Right now its about seven pages long, and bound to be longer when I add some more personal details to it. As for stuff I'm bringing, own, and planning to buy there*, this list is lacking a really those details. My Packing tips and reasons post (To come later) will be supper detailed on what I'm bringing, owning, and buying. I figured this would be good for anyone that is looking for stuff to copy and past onto their own packing list. (Also the formatting sucks here...)

O.O 51 DAYS?!

gif, disney, lionking So i just realized that I will be going to D*sneyWorld in less than60 days. Thats what that awesome little counter over there is>.
I have officially entered the freak out zone. Added to the stuff I have to buy, I also have to get some stuff settled out.  Thankfully I have already registered for the roommate match. Although I'm not sure if they just match you to your arrival date or if they have questions as I've seen on a few other people's blogs.

I need to get something from my insurance showing that I am covered or my car, under my parents plan, and I have to figure out if I want to keep my Netflix plan and just transfer it to my new address once I get down there, and I have to call and see if I can change my internet plan down to the lowest usage.

And then theres classes, papers(4), finals (5), and cleaning my room&car. That last one I'm actually looking forward to compared to the rest.

--
EDIT: I figured I would add the documents that you have to bring with you to Disney.
These are jsut the most common ones, they have a whole list.
Passport (If you bring this, its the only thing you need since it shows you work legibility)
Driver's License +
SS card or Birth Cert. (I would suggest the card, since the Birth Cert. are kinda big and you really do not want to lose, it very hard to get a new one without it.)
CAR:
License, Registration, and Insurance with your name on it.

--
P.S.: I added a formspring, in the off chance I get any questions. Feel free to ask anything, really anything, I'm kinda lonely bored over here.

Finally!

Happy times! Today I got my purple acceptance folder in the mail!  I then went paid the $300 and some odd dollars for housing. The site is really informative so far as what you need, where to go and how to get there. This is also where you can find out what paperwork and documents you need to bring with you.

I'm having some trouble getting the on-boarding paperwork to download correctly on my Mac. Oh well that's what my old Green Thing of DOOM laptop is for.

Oh! My arrival date is May 18th! WOOT

< So anyway this is me. Next to me are my awesome ribbon of buttons, books, and waxed camel .(I love camels)

Need Money?

Okay so quick update! I have discovered an awesome site where you can bid on giftcards (THANK YOU MIKA!!!) It's pretty awesome as long as you only bid on the 25 and under ones. Those you can win with about 1-5 bids no problem. It does cost 60 to join (you pay for your first 100 bids upfront)

I was kinda stupid and bid on the 200 dollar giftcards and lost a bunch of bid up front. But once I started on the lower ones I got a total of $55! Seriously it is awesome! I still have a bunch of bids left, so I'll be bidding again in a day or so (limit 3 wins per day) So I'm going to get my investment back rather quickly (they also have a money back guarantee) YAY so happy. I'll be able to finally buy a GPS!

Advising Meeting Update

I had my advising meeting today. It went alright. My advisory is a bit dull and useless. He didn't know anything about the program or if I could take any classes or anything like that. But I did find out what I have to do to register for Spring2012. Just e-mail him and he'll send me my pin. We then get to the end and he asks me what my t-shirt means.
LLAP= LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!

disney,gof
So then I begin talking about Star Trek and how my shirt came form Nimoy's shop and how I got a card that he signed with it. I was basically all smiley and geeky dork. The he tells me "Oh you are difently Disney, but with a twist." ....ugh thanks I think....

So tonight I'll be filling out my forms online for Disney and paying the terrible $300 for housing.  I also shall be applying to QuiBids to try and get a 200 gift card for amazon.

Packing Prep

So I think I have finalized my packing list. So far its double column on 4 pages. -.- I am holding onto the hope that the four pages are mostly my own OCD in listing everything under every category and everything that goes with it.  Since I have a bunch of stuff to buy as well as stuff I own I figured I would make two posts. One with just the list, another with suggestions for things and tips on packing.

Introduction! (Obligatory "About Me" Post)

Hello!
Normally I'm pretty shy, so heres hoping that this makes me less so.
My name is Sarah, and I am a 22 year old college student. I'm going to school to be a History Teacher, but will probably add on a few more things before I'm done. I'm currently studying at EIU (they take all my money) and its not too bad. I sighed up for the Disney College program hoping for some 'real world' experience with a company that is very well respected, even if it doesn't directly relate to my major. I may decide to stay with Disney!

I took my interview on the 12th and got my acceptance e-mail on the 18th. I was so surprised! I'll be doing the Main Entrance Operations, so not too glamorous but oh well.  I have an advising meeting next week, so I'll alk to my advisor about talking a semester off, and if I would be able to take internet classes.

A little about me:
I LOVE movies. Almost any and all. The ones listed in my profile are just a few I can see (and recognize) the covers for form my shelf. I like a few cult movies, and even more geek movies. I also like a lot of weird (Labyrinth), probably not so great movies(Poolhall Junkies), BU I LOVE THEM.
I'm a huge Disney nerd. No, seriously. Trivia, movies, random facts. I LOVE IT ALL.
I geek-out over TV shows. Firefly, Supernatural, Buffy, STAR TREK, White Collar, Burn Notice, Buffy...glee...
I love books. I'll read pretty much anything, fiction, non-fiction, auto-bios, historical fiction, fantasy...I have even been known to read a semi-romance.

I'm a closet romantic, and the easiest way to my heart is say something romantically geeky.

The next few posts or so will probably be updates on the school situation, planning(I love lists and planning), and packing and organizing and trying not to freak out.

LLAP= LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!
